AMCAL turned an underutilized transit parking lot into a four-story $30 million affordable housing mixed-use development. The site includes 66 family apartment units, MTS trolley commuter parking and 1000 sf of retail space above one level of subterranean parking. Located at 62nd and Akin Street in southeast San Diego, the development provides excellent access to the Orange Line Trolley Station, Encanto Recreation Center, Malcolm X Library and Jacobs Community Center. AMCAL partnered with the San Diego Housing Commission leasing the land from MTS for 55 years during which time the apartments with meet affordable housing criteria.
Geocon performed a geotechnical investigation including a fault study to evaluate the La Nacion Fault and followed up with testing and observation during construction.
Interesting Fact: The MTS Orange Line is 18 miles long and runs from Downtown San Diego to El Cajon with an annual ridership of approximately 12 million.
