Willow Street Bridge Replacement – Water Line Relocation (Phase I)
Chula Vista, California

Associated with the multi-phased replacement of Willow Street Bridge over Sweetwater River in Chula Vista, California, Geocon performed a geotechnical investigation and dewatering analysis for the replacement of an existing 500-foot-long water pipeline within the river channel. Our study and modelling indicated that dewatering during construction would be necessary. Based on the subsurface condition encountered during our investigation, a 3D computer model MODFLOW was utilized to evaluate the proposed dewatering alternatives. Our findings and recommendations were incorporated into the project design and construction. The project team received an APWA Outstanding Award for the Water Line Relocation (Phase I) in 2017.

Interesting Facts:  The Sweetwater River is 55 miles long with a watershed of 230 square miles and flows to San Diego Bay.
