The replacement Soboba Casino and Resort is one of the largest, single commercial construction projects in the Hemet-San Jacinto Valley. The project includes a 200-room hotel, pool, two restaurants, a food court and sports bar, a 15,000-sq. ft. banquet and meeting facility for conferences and special events. There are three areas of construction concentration: casino, hotel, and back-of-house operations. The project is expected to create approximately 700-800 new jobs at the Casino/Resort as well as drive economic development not only for Soboba but for the entire San Jacinto Valley.
Geocon performed multiple geotechnical investigations for various phases of the projects, including the Soboba Community Services Center, Soboba Park parking lot improvement, and the Eastern Municipal Sewer Line. Pavement Recommendations were given for the intersection of Soboba Road and Lake Park Drive. A Fault Rupture Hazard Investigation was also conducted for the Soboba Community Services Center.
Geocon also provided geotechnical observation and testing services for the earthwork associated with the construction of the Soboba Replacement Casino. We performed observation and testing during rough grading, during grading for the casino, back-of-house, and hotel building pad, during construction of the main, and during mass grading operations on the subject property. The scope of our services included the following:
- Observing and testing during temporary water line relocation.
- Performing observation and approval of excavation bottoms prior to placing fill.
- Performing in-place density tests on the earth materials placed and compacted for sewer trench backfill, rough grading, wall backfill, and utility trench backfill.
- Performing in-place density tests on the earth materials placed and compacted for street improvements including curb and gutter subgrade, sidewalk subgrade, and paving subgrade.
- Performing in-place density tests on asphalt concrete and aggregate base placed and compacted.
- Performing laboratory tests to aid in evaluating the compaction characteristics of soil types utilized
- Performing geologic mapping during site grading.
