San Onofre Synchronous Condenser Project
Camp Pendleton, California

Following decommissioning of the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS), a synchronous condenser designed to maintain voltage stability was installed at a new switchyard within the generating station.  Geocon utilized existing geotechnical data to aid in design of an approximately 50-foot-high soil nail wall to accommodate the switchyard.  Geocon also provided testing and observation and special inspection services during construction.

Interesting Fact: A Synchronous Condenser weight approximately 400,000 pounds.
