Mount Diablo State Park

Renowned for its panoramic views of the San Francisco Bay Area, Mount Diablo State Park stands as a popular destination for nature enthusiasts and cyclists. Nine perennial springs provide drinking water to the campgrounds, drinking fountains, and the visitor’s center. Spring output has significantly decreased due to persistent drought conditions.

The Department of Parks and Recreation directed Geocon to investigate potential groundwater resources within the Park. Geocon utilized geophysical surveys to locate subsurface conditions where groundwater could be present. Geocon selected two locations to advance exploratory borings. Viable groundwater was encountered in both locations and two water supply wells were constructed.

Geocon proceeded with pump and water quality testing to meet the Division of Drinking Water’s requirements for a transient non-community water system. Both wells will be incorporated into the Park’s water system to provide water to more than 600,000 annual visitors who come to enjoy the scenic trails, picnic areas, campsites, and the visitor’s center. Geocon provides hydrogeology and engineering geology services to assist clients in areas with water supply challenges.
