GEOCON IMPACT – Celebrating the People Who Make A Difference | Harry and Joe – Bridging the Gap Between Classroom and Career in Geotechnical Engineering

What does a day in the life of a geotechnical engineer look like? CSUN civil engineering students got an inside look when Harry Derkalousdian, and Joseph Hicks, PE, M.S., shared their experiences in the field.

From site investigations to problem-solving in real time, they walked students through the challenges and rewards of geotechnical engineering—offering insights on career paths, industry trends, and the hands-on nature of the work.

We love opportunities to connect with the next generation of engineers and help bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world applications. A big thank you to the CSUN ASCE Student Chapterfor having us!
