Presidio of Monterey, Advanced Individual Training Barracks
Monterey, California

A 124,000-square-foot, 4-story high barracks building was recently constructed primarily to house 320 Defense Language Institute students in sustainable, contemporary living spaces, comparable to those of the private sector.  The project is expected to receive LEED Gold, with sustainability features like rainwater collection and high efficiency mechanical systems. The $56 million US Army Corps of Engineers design-build project was awarded to the Sundt Construction team that included Geocon.   Geocon’s scope of work includes a geotechnical investigation, materials testing, special inspection (soils, concrete, masonry, welding, bolting), and SWPP inspection services for the project during design and construction.

Interesting Fact: The Presidio of Monterey was originally a school of musketry, then a school for cooks and bakers for the Army.  It is the last Presidio in California to have an active military installation.
