Mr. Hoobs began his professional career with Geocon in 1985 after graduating with his Masters in Geology. He is a registered engineering geologist who specializes in managing small to large-scale projects for both private and public clients in southern California. He is an expert at providing timely service for projects with critical schedules. Landslide and fault studies, as well as rock blasting and placement are frequent requirements. Construction monitoring and verification and adherence to specifications are an integral component of his service to clients. They appreciate his experience and expertise. Mr. Hoobs has managed over 1,000 projects in his career, some for over 25 years, with total grading yardages in excess of 500 million cubic yards including Poway Business Park,  Portola Center, Main Ranch, Rancho Mission Viejo, Otay Ranch Villages, Torrey Hills, La Costa Oaks North, and Torrey Ranch, to name just a few. He has used his experience to value engineer substantial savings for clients during construction operations.

Mr. Hoobs has been involved with several city and public works entities including the City of Imperial Beach, City of San Diego, City of La Mesa, Padre Dam, Sweetwater Union High School District, Poway Unified School District, and San Marcos Unified School District. Mr. Hoobs has extensive grading experience in rock blasting and management, and landslide buttresses. Mr. Hoobs has also provided expert consulting for several general contractors and clients to resolve contractual and technical issues between parties.

John was on the CalGeo board of directors for 11 years serving the geotechnical industry to strengthen the values of engineering in both public and private sectors. John loves to travel the world and enjoys hiking in mountains across the US. He and his wife are empty nesters and have two adult sons and a daughter in-law. He also has been going on an annual guy’s trip for over 30 with friends he has known since high school and college.
