Geocon is seeking a dedicated, hard-working, and professional field technician for a wide variety of public agency and private sector projects throughout the greater Bay Area region. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, positive attitude, willingness to travel, and commitment to client service, professionalism, and accuracy. Attention to detail and follow-up skills, and dedication to workplace health and safety are imperative.

Job Description

Conduct field observations, sampling, and testing related to soils engineering and earthwork construction:

  • Grading and Earthwork – Heavy Civil Construction
  • Underground Utility Construction and Trench Backfill
  • Soil Stabilization
  • Roadway Construction, Paving

Materials Testing / Special Inspections (may require Certifications):

  • Concrete
  • Grout
  • Aggregates

Experience/Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience
  • Soil nuclear density gauge certification required (can be obtained online)
  • Caltrans certifications are preferred but not required
  • International Code Council (ICC) and/or American Concrete Institute (ACI) certifications preferred but not required
  • Licenses: Valid California driver’s license and clean DMV record required for travel to and between job sites, and for transportation of specialized equipment such as nuclear gauges
  • Must be able to pass physical and routine drug tests
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs. on a routine basis

Senior Lab Technician
Irvine, California

Recommended Skills and Qualifications: 

  • 3-5 years of experience in a soils/materials laboratory
  • Basic computer skills using Excel and Microsoft Word
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities 

  • Work Level requires responsible self-management for soil lab testing including compaction curves, expansion index and corrosion testing along with logging striping storing and compression testing of concrete cylinders.

Essential Functions 

This job requires ability to lift 50 pound samples.
