San Diego, California: Geocon is celebrating 55 years of providing practical engineering and environmental solutions for projects and communities throughout California.
Geocon opened in San Diego in 1971 as a small geotechnical engineering practice led by Jim Likins. When its parent company later planned to close the operation, Jim and Nancy Likins took a second mortgage on their family home to purchase Geocon and keep it going. It was a deeply personal risk that set in motion 55 years of growth and established a lasting foundation of technical expertise, practical judgment, personalized service, and trusted relationships.
Over the decades, Geocon grew into a multidisciplinary firm with offices across California. Today, Geocon is one of the state’s largest geotechnical firms focused exclusively on California. With 11 offices statewide and over 360 professionals, our California focus has given Geocon a deep familiarity with the state’s diverse geology, seismic setting, terrain, and regional construction conditions, from dense metropolitan areas to remote and technically challenging locations.
For CEO Shawn Weedon, the milestone is first and foremost about the people behind Geocon’s success.

Celebrating Where We Began
To mark the milestone, Geocon revisited one of its original logos and added a celebratory 1970s flair. The anniversary design pairs an early Geocon mark with bold, period-inspired colors and forms, connecting the company’s beginnings with the firm it has become.
