What was once a path for trains is now a path for people — the Del Rio Trail transforms a historic rail corridor into a new kind of connection for the community.
Spanning 4.8 miles through south Sacramento, it connects neighborhoods, parks, schools, and local businesses with a safe, accessible route for walking and biking. Designed for people of all ages and abilities, it supports healthier, more connected ways to move through the city. Public artworks by local artists add cultural depth along the corridor, encouraging people to see and experience the trail in new ways.
At Geocon, we’re proud to have played a role in bringing this vision to life, providing geotechnical engineering and hazardous materials services that helped preserve the historic Walnut Grove Branch of the Sacramento Southern Railroad while building a trail designed for the future.
We’re honored that our work on the Del Rio Trail has been recognized by CalGeo with the 2024–2025 Outstanding Project Award in the Public–Small category.
This recognition reflects our role in bringing new purpose to a historic rail corridor — in collaboration with the City of Sacramento, Dokken Engineering, Mountain Methods, Inc., Dewberry, and Stephen Glassman Studio.
Projects like this remind us: the best engineering isn’t just about structures…it’s about shaping spaces where communities thrive!
