  • Soil nuclear density gauge certification required (can be obtained online)
  • Caltrans certifications are preferred but not required

Senior Project – Level Certified Asbestos Consultant/Geologist/Engineer/Environmental Scientist 
San Diego, California

Geocon, a full-service environmental and geotechnical consulting firm, is seeking a highly motivated Project-Level professional to join our team. This position offers the opportunity to work on a wide variety of environmental consulting projects for both public and private sector clients.

Position Requirements

We are looking for a candidate with a minimum of 10 years of experience in Southern California, specializing in environmental assessments and investigations. The ideal candidate will have experience conducting asbestos-containing materials and lead-containing paint surveys, as well as overseeing abatement monitoring and Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments. This position requires independent, hands-on fieldwork, including oversight of subcontractors and other field personnel. Candidates should be flexible, willing to travel, possess excellent communication skills, and demonstrate a strong commitment to workplace health and safety.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Conduct and/or assist with environmental site assessments (Phase I and II ESAs).
  • Perform hazardous material sampling and testing, building inspections, hazard evaluations, and review of hazardous materials reports and abatement plans.
  • Prepare site assessments, hazardous material reports, proposals, and submittals.
  • Manage and develop a growing client base.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geology, Civil (Environmental) Engineering, Environmental Science or a related scientific field is required.
  • Certifications: California Certified Asbestos Consultant (CAC) and Lead Inspector certifications are required.
  • Licenses: Professional Registration (PG, CEG, CHG, or PE) is preferred.
  • Experience: A minimum of 10 years of environmental consulting experience in Southern California is required.
  • Training: OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification is preferred.
  • Other Requirements: A valid California driver’s license, a current DMV printout, and access to a personal vehicle for travel to various sites.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead and manage projects, including delegating tasks to available staff resources
  • Perform technical review of non-complex geotechnical reports, addenda letters, and proposals
  • Perform geotechnical engineering analyses including vertical/lateral capacity of shallow and deep foundations, settlement analyses, liquefaction analyses, slope stability analyses, retaining wall recommendations, grading evaluation (knowledge of ground motion evaluations is a plus)

Job Description:

  • Review existing project data and requirements.
  • Prepare proposals, budgets, schedules, and reports needed to achieve project goals.
  • Conduct investigations to characterize and evaluate geologic & geotechnical conditions, and to identify geologic factors that could impact the design, construction, and/or long-term performance of engineered structures.
  • Install, maintain and monitor geotechnical instrumentation.
