Geotechnical Laboratory Technician
Non-Exempt Status, Hourly, Full-Time or Part-Time
Reports to Lab Manager
Education: High School Education or equivalent
Certifications: Obtains and maintains lab certifications and technician certifications at the request of the lab manager. Obtain nuclear density gauge certification upon hire.
Employee must understand basic math, be able to follow directions and test procedures, and be willing to advance their knowledge by obtaining testing certifications as required to perform their duties in the laboratory and field.
Essential Functions: Employee is expected to perform laboratory testing under supervision and direction of laboratory manager and to perform field testing and sampling as needed to support field operations and the direction and guidance of the Field Supervisor. The employee will report directly to the Lab Manager and any fieldwork will be coordinated between the Field Supervisor and the Lab Manager.More +
Laboratory testing will include soil and materials testing which requires lifting, bending, reaching, sweeping, moving lab equipment side to side, and organization. Employee should be able to lift concrete cylinders weighing approximately 30 lbs, soil bulk bags weighing up to 50 lbs, and nuclear density gauge equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. The nuclear density gauge is used in the field and requires carrying the equipment over uneven ground to get to the test location.

Employees are also expected to practice safe lifting by moving in a manner to protect their skeletal muscular system and use the buddy system when possible. Further, employees are expected to maintain physical fitness in an effort to prevent injury.
Expected Hours of Work: Generally Monday through Friday 8 am to 5 pm, as arranged between employee and Lab Manager.
