Following heavy winter rains, significant damage to back country roads became a top priority for the County of San Diego. Damage included distress to storm drain infrastructure, erosion of creek banks, rock falls, failed fill slopes and surficial erosion. Large boulders fell and blocked South Grade Road near the summit of Palomar Mountain and fears of additional rock falls necessitated installation of a rock fence. Geocon was the County’s consultant for approximately twenty of these projects and provided recommendations for the rock fall fence.
