APWA Project of the Year – Less than $500,000, Small Agency Division, Environmental Category

The Rocklin Redevelopment Agency purchased the Big Gun Quarry for development of commercial buildings and an historical interpretive park. The facility operated as a granite quarry for dimension stone and other related products since the early 1900s. The Agency retained Geocon to complete a fast-tracked mine reclamation closure in accordance with State of California Mining and Geology Board and Office of Mine Reclamation requirements. Our services included stabilization of pit slopes, scaling of loose debris, vegetation removal, installation of erosion control material, fencing, gates and signage, structural evaluation of the existing structures for historical preservation or demolition purposes, onsite relocation of historic artifacts, disposal of salvage items, disposal of diesel fuel and waste oil aboveground storage tanks, and abatement of lead and asbestos-containing materials.
